Galway Audition Workshop
Dated On 11-03-2009 :
AUDITION TECHNIQUE WORKSHOP
with Graham Cantwell
By far the most important skill to develop as an actor looking to work in
film and television is the ability to audition well. Too often actors find
themselves let down in an audition environment because of nerves or
inexperience. The good news is that there are a number of steps and
techniques that you can follow to prepare for an audition that will help
you to perform with confidence and authority.
In this 4 hour workshop director Graham Cantwell will talk you through the
various stages of the audition process from both sides of the table. With
practical examples and an inclusive approach you will learn about:
- Preparing yourself for audition
- Preparing a scene for audition
- Making brave choices
- The 10 minutes before the audition
- Making a good first impression
- Good audition technique
- Cold reading
- Rescuing an audition
- Working with an unresponsive partner
- Standing out from the crowd
- Figuring out what a director is looking for
- Taking direction and making adjustments
- Being prepared in order to be flexible
- The power of conversation
- Avoiding second guessing and post mortems
- Typecasting
- Active listening
Graham Cantwell has been working in film since 1996 and has developed a
huge level of experience at all levels of the industry. His most recent
work, the feature film ANTON, has screened at festivals worldwide including
the Marche du Film at the Cannes Film Festival, the American Film Market,
the Boston Irish Film Festival, The Foyle International Film Festival, The
Galway Film Fleadh and others, and was nominated for 3 Irish Film and
Television Academy Awards. The film screened in Irish theatres for three
weeks in October 2008 to great critical acclaim and has been picked up for
international sales by Eastwest distribution in London.
