An intensive, six-part workshop in characterization techniques with John Dawson
In this workshop, a vast range of techniques are explored that will enable actors to quickly create very believable, multi-dimensional and dynamic characters in auditions and performances for the stage and screen. Twelve actors will begin with prepared monologues of their choice. They will then be cast in scenes from powerful and challenging contemporary plays and films. John will take the actors through a series of exercises that develop their abilities to synchronize body and mind from techniques developed by Michael Chekhov, Stella Adler, Rudolf Laban and Sanford Meisner. In the workshop’s sixth and final class, these new tools and techniques will be used in simulated auditions to help increase the chances of securing roles. The actors will perform their monologues again, now informed with the techniques that they now have in their personal repertoires.
